Do those high prices at the fuel pump have you thinking about making the switch to an electric car, such as theChevy Bolt EV, like a lot of Gothenburg drivers? Then you’re probably thinking about things like the typical electric car charging time. How long does it take to charge an electric car? That depends on the method used for charging. EV charging time can take around half an hour for a mostly full charge all the way to 12 hours. We talk about those different charging methods below.

Public Electric Car Charging Time by Charger

Basic Public AC Charging (240V)

  • Up to 7.4 KW per hour
  • EV charging time – 20% per hour

Fast DC Charging

How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Car at Home?

You can charge your electric vehicle at home by either plugging the cord that came with it into an existing wall socket (Level 1) or by purchasing a charging unit and having it professionally installed (Level 2). Most drivers find it’s worth it to install a charger as this method reduces EV charging time by several hours. The good news is that Chevrolet will cover installation of a Level 2 charger at your home when you purchase a Chevy Bolt EV orBolt EUV.
