Do Electric Cars Need Oil or Other Lubricants?

While electric vehicles don’t use engine oil, they do still have a transmission and electric motor that require lubrication. While the electric motor parts come lubed for life, things like transmission fluid still need to be replaced at regular intervals. Aside from these fluid changes, automotive experts recommend bringing an EV into a Service Center for inspection and maintenance at least once per year. However, if you’re driving over 14,000 miles per year, much higher than the average McCook commuter, then you’re going to need to come in a little more frequently, even twice per year.

• 15,000 miles: Replace wiper blades.

• 75,000 miles: Replace hood gas struts.
• Every 5 years: Fill vehicle fluids and replace brake fluid.
• Every 7 years: Change air conditioning desiccant.
